Common Core poses harm to Catholic education, especially as it violates the principle of subsidiarity — human events are best handled at the lowest possible level, closest to the individuals affected by the decisions being made. … Now, Pope Francis backs up the concerns of Catholic-school parents in an interview on Vatican Radio calling for an end to what he termed “educational experiments” with children and young people, pushing a “dictatorship of one form of thinking” on them in the name of a pretended “modernity”. BOOM!
Common Core Standards confine teachers to a particular vision for education that threatens the independence and unique mission of Catholic schools. Furthermore, parents are largely eliminated from decisions regarding Common Core. CCSS are not mandated for Catholic schools; North Carolina has passed a law to repeal and replace the Standards. Why continue adapting Common Core Standards when it threatens to harm Catholic education and our children?
