Acting Ed Secretary’s Nomination Hearing Full of Softballs

When Secretary Arne Duncan left, King was made the acting Secretary. This past week, Obama’s nomination of John King for Secretary of Education had a hearing.

The hearing was nothing short of a total love-fest filled with softball questions from Sen. Lamar Alexander. In some portions, Alexander nearly testifies for King.

The video of the hearing is embedded in the tweet below.

John King has no business being Secretary of Education. Alexander’s long personal history in the testing industry and having put all his eggs in the ESSA basket translates to Alexander needing to push for King’s formal confirmation.

I wrote to NC Senators Thom Tillis and Richard Burr about this nomination and urged them not to confirm King.
Here are the responses.  Neither are imbued with much hope.
